In the spacious Michelsen shop on Laugavegur, the main shopping street in downtown Reykjavík, a wide range of high quality watches and jewellery are available, including many internationally known brands. The company’s flagship is the world famous Rolex watches but since 1981 the Michelsens have been the official agent in Iceland. Other interesting brand worth mentioning is TAG Heuer, one of the most growing watch brand in the industry today.
On December 1st 2009, to mark the centenary of the Michelsen company in Iceland, the shop launched their own watch under the name MICHELSEN WATCHMAKERS, in a numbered and limited edition of 100 pieces. The Anniversary watch became an instant success so the project was kept alive. Today the Michelsens offer a small but beautiful collection of Michelsen watches where Icelandic nature and elements have been an inspiration for the design of the watches. Of course, all Michelsen watches house a high quality mechanical movement and all materials are highly recognized in the watchmaking industry but other materials are more exotic, for instance the especially handmade Icelandic catfish straps.
Among interesting design watches the Michelsens offer Movado from Switzerland and the famous Danish brands Georg Jensen, Rosendahl, Skagen and Arne Jacobsen. There is also an excellent selection of Icelandic designed and handcrafted jewellery in silver and gold in the spacious Michelsen shop.
Michelsen Watchmakers welcome you for a visit to their shop. The staff is highly trained and the knowledge of the products is excellent. The prices will also surprise you, there are no custom taxes on watches and jewellery in Iceland and don’t forget that all foreign tourists enjoy the privilege of buying watches and jewellery with up to 15% Tax Refund.
